There is a way that you won't have to reformat your hard drive and lose everything to reinstall windows. You can do repair reinstall. With repair reinstall (also called a refresh), it will let you keep your current settings unlike a complete reinstall that will give you a truly fresh version of Windows. Repairs are fast and easy, but they don't fix anywhere near as many problems. To make sure, back up all your files before you begin to reinstall windows.

Windows itself by default cannot be installed onto an external drive. If you really want to do so, you need a hack (which is fairly well documented on the web. just google it.).

1. Yes, the installation disk is all you need for a default installation.

2. If you install from inside your existing Windows, you can retain most of everything you have. However, this is not recommended because as you mentioned, your system has been infected. Better to do a clean re-install (which of course has to wipe out all everything).

3. You can install anything onto your external drive except the Windows system itself.

4. No, you cannot do that.

5. If you do a clean re-install with the partition re-formatted during the installation process, you should be able to clean up all the virus.

6. Yes, a clean re-install will very much get you back to the factory state, just like when you first got your computer.

7. The backup will be for your documents. If you do so, you can still access them with the appropriate software after Windows is re-installed.

8. Not necessary.

5. Yes, It will get rid of the virus unless the virus goes with your backups or it affects the boot sector.

6. Your computer will have nothing on it except the OS.

7. Back up everything as in put all files you want to keep on external storage.

A: have you tried to do a system restore ?

if not go to start >accessories >system tools select system restore

B: run all your anti-virus and adware programmes first

B:yes you can reinstall windows without losing very much data

but you do need to copy some of the data and move it .

they are the folder "my documents". plus any of the "sub folders"

which includes my music my pictures etc

it is a good idea to move all your precious files and any downloaded programmes folders to an external drive

C: you will lose microsoft office if installed on your system

D: before you install windows download the latest version of your anti-virus software and store it / then as soon as you have windows running again install it before you go on line and activate windows

8. is rubbish just turn of your router

why could you prefer exterior? yet another section to hold arround, Plus it is going to waste battery capability, And on the different hand if the single interior the pc dies you cant pass all your homestead windows OS to that new tension. Get a sparkling inner.
