Do all PCMCIA USB cards need external power and does it make a difference if you choose it with 2 or 4 usb ports in terms of additional power needed?

hi mate

no... most draw their power from the internal power supply ( or battery in other words ) .. and its around the same amount as what a a usb port draws... however on rare occasions there are some pcmcia cards that will require additional power... but ive only seen a few

in regards to the amount of usb ports ona pcmcia card well the more there are and if all these are used then it will obviously use more power than if you had just 2 usb ports ...... but the average usb port uses very little power (0.3v to 3.0v ) ... and this can be safely drawn from the laptops mainboard

so i would only choose what you require....so if you just need a additional one usb port then choose the 2 port card, the less power the better and you dont need additional power thats not going to be needed

i hope this helps, any questions let me know

good luck mate !

yeah, you mustn't. because of the fact if the output of volts is larger the object could be fried, OR like in case you have 2 laptops, shall we are saying a Dell and a Gateway, and you utilize the comparable charger for the two, yet its made for the Dell. you additionally could make it so the Gateway battery won't have the skill to hold a can charge anymore and you will basically have the skill to apply it as AC skill (pluggd in)
