question about "installed drivers"?

Can any information be held long term on installed drivers? I'm not talking about the hard drive. i'm talking about the component that interfaces between the computers hardware and the operating system. Thanx!

I'm not sure I have any idea what you're asking. A driver is just a small file that instructs your operating system how to properly communicate with a hardware device. It doesn't "store" anything. Maybe you're talking about something different.



It sounds more like you're talking about RAM. Random access memory holds data temporarily as it is transfered between the CPU and the other components of the computer. Once the computer is shut off, all the data stored in RAM is lost, so it would definitely not be possible to store information there long term.

Device drivers are simple software programs that allow your computer operating system eg. Windows to communicate with hardware in your computer, they don't store any information about what you have been doing on the computer.



The only places this information is stored are



1) System memory (RAM) very temporarily, replaced all the time as you use your computer, and lost completely when the computer is powered off.

2) Hard drive permanent/semi permanent depending how often you clean up the drive using drive clean up utilities.
