Every time I plug it into my laptop I receive a message that says my " your USB Mass storage Device can perform faster if it plugged in to a hi-speed port."

OK How do I know which port is the hi-speed port? I have no clue to where to plug this device into on my laptop. I have several ports around the side but I can't tell which is which?

Most likely, all of your ports operate at the same speed. The "low speed" port(s) are probably the external hub itself. Many USB hubs still don't operate at high speed so you're going to receive that message anytime you use the hub. A good rule of thumb, plug your most used and most memory intensive items directly into the computer (scanners, cameras, etc). Use the hub for devices that don't require faster speeds (printers).

Because of that message, I can tell the port you are plugging it into is not "a hi-speed port" which means USB 2.0

If your laptop had USB 2.0, all of your USB ports would be 2.0. It looks like you only have USB 1.0

You could buy a PCMIA card that has USB2.0 on it. Almost every laptop has a slot for PCMIA.

All your newer ports are more than likely USB 2. The hub/device you are using is probably USB 1. Thus you will get that message no matter what port you plug it into.

It thinks it is in a USB 1.1 port, check to see if the laptop has USB 2.0 ports and use them, if not it is not a big deal.

confident besides the reality that with USB hubs you will lose some power so it is not recommended to plug severe power units jointly with exterior annoying drives in an extension. have you ever seen getting a USB card that makes use of PCI?

definite whether with USB hubs you will lose some skill so this is no longer cautioned to plug extreme skill instruments which includes exterior no longer common drives in an extension. have you ever seen getting a USB card that makes use of PCI?

For some reason, the ports at the back of the laptop are the fastest ones

They will all be the same, you cant upgrade them, its not to bad its a few KB's off

Hope this helps

All I can say is to try them all.
