It happens on any game that doesn't use Steam to install for example Fallout 3

CRC error: The file C:\Program Files\Bethesda Softworks\Fallout 3\Data\Fallout - Textures.bsa doesn't match the file in the setup's .cab file. The medium from which you are running the setup may be corrupted; contact your software vendor.

I get this error when installing; Fallout, STALKER 1,2&3.
Could the problem be with my DVDROM?

Very mere that all the 3 CD's are faulty since all the STALKER's worked on the same computer before I did a clean install of Windows 7

yes the disc might be scratched or the .cab file is corrupt . I suggest you to repair the file ,an online software is available for this or use an extractor that supports extracting .cab files

EDITED:

YES, its called cyclic redundancy check, but that only means the READ is being interrupted.

It doesn't always mean the disk is bad.

There can be oil from a finger tip, dust or even a hair on the lens.

Is this CRC problem , the laptop?

If so, see if the laser lens is dirty. (DON'T TOUCH IT TO HARD)

Try cleaning the lens. BLOW IT OFF

But,

If the game works on other PC's , then Yes , it can be the drive.

Try to transfer the files to a USB flash drive on one of the other computers , then put them into a folder , then create a virtual disk drive.

if the transfer completes , you can do 1 of 2 things .

1.Either install the game from the folder & just use the disk in the drive to start the game

Or

2. create a virtual drive & mount the files there & run it from that.

You can use software like Poweriso , ISO recorder & more

I had a similar issue with the Sims 3 installation. the individuals contained in the save suggested the priority replaced into with my pc specification, inspite of the undeniable fact that it wasn't because the pc met the spec. So I sought if you happen to had complications and placed this thread and tried the options on right here (no longer reinstalling the OS as a results of the undeniable fact that is a stupid theory). cleansing the registry did not artwork yet copying the disk in the course of to the hardpersistent and installation from there did. thanks for the help received! sturdy success!

it's probably the drive that causes the problem, or the discs are scratched. try another drive (an external USB drive will do.
