If your new mouse is also Logitech then you should download the latest drivers/software from their support site. Logitech "SetPoint" software is updated very regularly so if your drivers were from 2006 something has gone wrong. If the drivers were dated 2006 then they are probably generic Microsoft drivers. You will get better performance and more functionality using SetPoint with all logitech mice.
Many of Logitech wireless models [you don't state the model no] use a proprietary wireless technology called "Unifying" and there is a special download from the Logitech site that you need to install to get up and running. If your model supports this then once you have plugged the "Unifying" receiver into a USB port you need to open the Unifying software interface and "pair" your mouse. It is a little similar to connecting and pairing a bluetooth phone/device with your PC, if you have ever used one.
Before installing SetPoint and the Unifying software [if your wireless model supports it] I suggest that you uninstall all mouse related drivers [including USB, HID and any other section that has mouse/pointing devices installed] through device manager first, to get anything incompatible out of the way.
You can download the Logitech SetPoint driver/software here: http://www.logitech.com/en-gb/584/3131?wt.mc_id=usym_/setpoint_global&strf=Universal_Symlink
and if you have a model that supports it, the "Unifying" software from here: http://www.logitech.com/en-us/349/6127
If you are unsure if your mouse requires the Unifying component then visit the link below and enter the model no to be sure: http://www.logitech.com/en-us/support-downloads
good luck
