Yesterday, I was trying to fix my friend's computer. It was brand new. The mouse and keyboard weren't working so we decided to test mine on his computer. My mouse worked for a few seconds then it didnt. I went to try his mouse and mine on my laptop and the lights only blinked and it didn't work. My friend had limewire installed so I assumed a virus must've had something to do with it. Is there any way to fix my mouse?

Limewire should have no effect on a mouse, once it's removed from the potentially infected computer.

I'm more concerned about a USB port problem of some type that may have electrically damaged your mouse. Or, his new mouse may have a short that shut down that USB port.

Do make sure you reboot and try again before giving up. Reboots do tend to reset overloaded USB ports. Try YOUR mouse on YOUR laptop in a different USB slot than normal. If it works there, the problem is probably in your friends mouse.

once you assert the sunshine is fading, i anticipate you propose the LED mild udnerneath it that it makes use of because it is preparation. attempt a differenct USB port on your computer, if that works, then you definately've a falty port, if no longer it would desire to be the USB bus is notproviding a the right voltage or something else on the USB is drawing greater suitable than it would. attempt the mouse by using a powered USB hub, that way the PSU for the hub components the "working potential" and teh computer only deals with information, If there's no longer the rest on ESB, and not one of the ports run it appropriate, touch producer of computer for guarantee help, because it would desire to be a defective mainboard.

Don't use a USB mouse or use one but plug a PS/2 adapter into it. There are perfectly adequate interfaces which are less buggy and less demanding on the hardware and you're wasting a USB port by doing this. Either get an adaptor or a new mouse with a different plug.
