i have a usb modem when i plugin that usb modem in device manager it shows me "Universal Serial Bus Controllers > USB Mass storage device > no com port" when i run the software inside in that usb modem it changes its property to "Modem > Edge based modem > Com port 4"
how it is possible that usb converts itself from mass storage to com port using software....

Because what you installed was the driver. Without it Windows doesn't have a clue what the modem was when you plugged it into your computer so it called it a mass storage device. Although, even if tried to drag files onto it, i bet it'd give you an error saying the file couldn't b transferred.

When you plugin a usb modem to a PC , PC recognize it's small internal memory or card reader(integrated with usb modem) as storage option. It's normal. If modem not working, plugin modem to other usb ports, re-install modem software. some usb ports haven't enough power to run the modem.
