How much is involved in installing a new harddrive? Or a second hand harddrive -

It is quite simple to install a new hard disc. There are two cables which should be connected to the hard disc. The power cable which consists of 4 colored wires seperated from each other and only joined at the plug. Make sure that the red wire on the plug faces the red lining on the data cable (explained below) or in other words, the red wire should face the data cable if it does not have a red lining.



The data cable is a flat and wide cable, usually white in color (other colors are also available) The cable "plug" has a notch on one side which fits into the slot in the hard disc. Make sure you insert the cable gently with the pins in the hard disc aligned with the holes in the cable plug. Fit it firmly and you are done.



Next, place the disc in a casing slot and secure it with screws



For the PC to recognise the disc, you will have to configure the bios. Most likely your bios will be set up to automatically recognise the hard disc. If not, you will have to manually install it. Please read the bios manual to find out how that should be done.



One the disc is recognised in the bios, save it's settings and boot to your OS. In the OS, you will have to format the disc the first time you want to access it. After formatting, the disc is ready for use :)

Just about nothing at all. If it's a second hand drive, it's already been formatted. Just open up your computer, find the next available IDE cable plugin (It's the long wide strip with a red stripe on one side). Just plug it in and take out the pin selector on the back (this sets it into cable select mode, meaning it won't register the hard drive as your primary). Then just start up your computer! The computer BIOS does the rest.

Installing a hard drive is a simple procedure. But you need to open up your case and determine what type of hard drive your computer uses. SATA hard drives will usually have a skinny red cable that connects to the back of it, and EIDE hard drives have a thin and wide usually white cable that connects to the back. Pretty simple. You need to open the computer case and plug in the 2nd connector of the data cable hooked to your C: drive and the power.

You need to slide it into one of the bays and hold it in with at least one screw. Also, you need to make sure that the first (existing) drive is set to master, and the new (second) drive to slave.

not much all you do is open the case, screw in the harddrive and plug in 2 cables and your done. and the two cables only fit inone way so you can't break it.

if u know about computer hardware than u will be fine. need to turn off the computer, plug the new hard drive in to the ide or sata cable and plug the power in. turn the computer on and go to BIOS to activate it ...

you should make new harddrive to master slave and old harddrive to priamary slave then you can installed both drive

its very simple, it should've came with instructions, on how to install....just be sure the jumpers are set as slave drive..it wont take long at all

i would do it for no more then 40.. but i am sure the retailers and oteh rplaces woudl charge you around 50 and add on more services liek "we woudl install that and this"
