external hard drive loses connection while downloading is there a problem with hard drive or usb cable?

i use external usb hard drive and download most of my data in that drive. but while downloading it loses connection sometime and then i have to re-attach it with my pc and it starts working, is there a problem with hard drive itself or the usb cable is droping connection? help me how to fix it

It could be a problem with the USB port losing power during the download or the chip inside the external hard drive case is faulty and you may need a new external drive case.



If your external drive uses an outlet also check the power cord. Maybe it's faulty.



Highly doubt it's the USB cable. USB cables don't go bad that easily if at all. Just make sure it's plugged in snug on both ends.
