The GeForce FX5200 was made only for AGP connectors.

The motherboard of the Dell Dimension 3100 has only one PCI-E x1 slot and three PCI slots.

You have answered your own question: There is no slot for the card on the motherboard, so it can't be installed on your computer.

You can install only older graphic cards made for the PCI (not the PCI-Express x16) slots on the computer in question. I would advise against it as they are even more outdated than the integrated graphics.

Installing a graphics card is a very simple way to add the much needed graphics memory on to a basic computer to accommodatee to the power hungry games of today. Graphics cards can be either intergrated; which means that the GPU is built directly into the motherboard, or it can be a separatee card that is plugged in to one of the available slots. Since you have decided that your intergrated graphics just isn't cutting it, you have to carefully select a graphics card that icompatiblele with your computer, your games and your budget. The first step in finding the right graphics card is to find out what type of slot you have open on your board. Typically it will be PCI E. Once you have made your selection, go head and open up your computer, making sure that you are grounded (important), and then gently pushing thye new card in the open slot. Secure the card with a standard issue screw. Close up your computer and attach your monitor and power up your new more capabable game worthy machine. Good Luck!

Your computer doesn't have an expansion slot for an add in video card - It has 2xPCI slots (the white ones) & a PCI express x1 slot (the little short one). You need an AGP slot, which you haven't got.

You can't upgrade the mainboard without buting a new copy of Windows due to Dell's licensing, so I'd try & sell the machine as it is & get a more up to date model. Sorry.

1 check the card is it a pcix or a pci express.then have a look at the available slots.pcix are white and pci express are white but longer and have a slide at the far end. remove the blank and insert the card in the right slot.if it is an older card it may be an agp which is a brown slot. check your specs to see if you have one.but as the man says you dont have the right slot for it.

At the back of the PC there should be some dormant slots with metal plates covering them. Your going to have to unscrew the screws there and take out the plate. The just slot the memory card into it. Its a new enough graphics card so I'm guessing it fits into a PCIE port. You might have to check the motherboard to find out which one this is...

What is a graphics slot? the graphics card should fit into any of the slots in the machine -- provided you've bought a version of the card that is right for the type of slots you have. Chances are that they are right, as both items are quite new. You may have to break out a slot cover strip at the back, so the edge of the card can extend out of the case.

If the size and position of the card edge connector won't line up with any of your motherboard slots, you have to return the card and get one with a suitable edge connector.

Well, be sure you know what you are doing before you open the computer. Call me a chicken, but I got an engineer to do mine.

Once you have opened it, its fairly straightforward...just slot in.

If there is no slot for it you can not fit it.
