for some reason my dvd burner is not reading blank dvds anymore. It reads and burns to cds and reads pre-recorded dvds but when I put in a blank dvd it doesn't do anything. Worked fine a few weeks ago. I've had some pals install some freeware dvd stuff on in the interim but I've deleted it and still won't work. I have a hl-dt-st dvdrrw gca-4164b. It's properties say it's working fine. Can anyone help me as to what the problem is? thanks.

Your 'Hi-dt-st GCA 4164b' is a LG product, The LG USA site is:

http://us.lge.com/index.jhtml

They have a 12 Month warranty on ALL DVD Drives.

This may help, The Ph # to LG Electronic RA / SWAP Dept. is: 800-243-0000, Ext 4461.

There Web Site is:

http://us.lgservice.com

I have dealt with them before, They are not real easy to deal with, They do take there time. They may or may not exchange it for you. if they do exchange it, the shipping is on them ( both ways )

This info is from experience.

Good Luck.

Kick your pals with freeware out and get Roxio. It sounds like a software problem.

It's garbage! That's the short answer, a firmware upgrade, a miracle, etc. aren't going to do anything for you...if you have warranty, use it, if not, go get yourself a Plextor brand burner, and you'll never look back!
