does the fan on the graphics card spin up on boot? Does your powersuppy have enough power and are the power connectors correctly installed?

Edit: Consult Compaq manual on how to install graphics card, you may need to disable the onboard graphics somehow... or your new card could be bad.

that is high-quality, the reminiscence varieties do no longer ought to verify. The reminiscence kind of the motherboard applies just to gadget RAM you are able to set up. you need to use any PCI-E x16 pictures card of any kind (GRRD2, GDDR3, GDDR5) that bodily suits, presented your capacity furnish meets the standards of the cardboard. pictures playing cards have their very own onboard reminiscence controllers, so your motherboard would not understand (or care) what kind of video RAM it has. A GeForce GTS 450 with GDDR5 reminiscence is totally like minded with the two DDR2 and DDR3 motherboards.

Your computer may not support PCI-e. I'd check the support section of the website of the computer or motherboard manufacturer to see if it does.

Also, it could be that you need a stronger power supply. Some are not powerful enough to power newer video cards.
