Did you plug it in completely, check it out. Or maybe you need to change you settings.

The sound for the cd player is internal, seperate from speakers, your sound card could be going bad or unplugged, try updating the sound card driver first, then check to see if the sound card is seated in it's bay completely.. Good Luck

Th problem sounds like your software. I have had trouble on occasion with Windows Media Player. Try downloading RealPlayer and try it.

check hardware or software change, is it a PCI or built on the motherboard? restore it to a earlier date.
