I have tried the advice on other threads to no avail, and it seems it usually is caused by downgrading from vista or related to SP2 I’m using XP pro SP3 32 x86 and have had it since I bought the laptop so I’d thought I post here
When I try and enable Bluetooth radios I get a box that says activate Bluetooth using FN+F2 or radio on/off switch. However neither of those options work. When I use the slide switch it shows the Bluetooth/Wi-Fi logo popup and FN + F2 does nothing.
I’m going to run by what I have tried already
Bluetooth:
In the diagnostics tab of Bluetooth configuration I get the following Bluetooth device is not detected
Followed by
Device properties >device status
Device not found the device may not be installed correctly, it may be powered off, it may be disabled or it may not be operational
In device manager under Bluetooth in the dropdown list there is only Bluetooth BUS enumerator which I have tried to use the hardware update wizard install the software automatically it then searches then states the wizard could not find a better match for the hardware or software you are using.
I then try install from list or specific location it then prompts to search locations which I enter CD/ROM and C:\DELL\DRIVERS\R147115 (the default folder option) when I do this I get the same message.
I tried downloading the latest driver from dell and running them as well as a patch that was supposed to resolve BT issues, the patch R159805.exe ran but still no Bluetooth
And when I try running the installer R161378 I get the Use FN+f2 or the switch message and only an option to cancel the installation
as I assume only activating the Bluetooth module will resume the installation I assume I’ve tried using the hardware wizard option >Don’t search . I will choose the driver to install and tried to install then select driver R161378 in the drop down list
But the OK button is greyed out.
I also tried downloading a Broadcom download tool SetupBtwDownloadSE but when I run it just hangs detecting stage with an exclamation mark telling me to switch on my Bluetooth device
Also notably in device manager I have 6 USB Root hubs showing up with the yellow exclamation mark and “Windows cannot start this hardware device because its configuration information (in the registry) is incomplete or damaged. (Code 19)” in the properties.
I have also tried uninstalling the USB root hubs in device manager then scanning for hardware changes both by right click>scan for hardware changes and the hardware wizard both prompt the balloon saying found new hardware searching for hardware then installed and ready to use and “this device is working properly in properties but if I refresh device manager the yellow exclamation point is back with the same error in properties I have also tried uninstalling then rebooting the laptop and again it just installs then gets the error symbols in device manager .
If anyone could help me try to restore functionality or point out what I’m doing wrong or point me to the solution or suggest some steps that might help please reply to these id be really grateful as I use both USB and Bluetooth heaps . I’m happy to answer any questions in order to help determine the problem.
