If it is a desktop system, just buy a USB card and install it. Make sure it is USB 2.0, not USB 1.1 - although it's not likely that anyone still has 1.1 on the shelves.

You can purchase a USB adapter card that will plug into one of your PCI Slots on the motherboard. Some USB cards have 2 ports others 4 ports. Any computer retail store should have them in stock.

Keep in mind that USB does not work in Windows 98 and under.

You need to have Windows 98 Special Edition and above to be able to use USB technology.

The USB port is the small flat plug socket that maximum each and every thing makes use of recently, you frequently have 2 or 4 on the returned and on later kind desktops 2 on the front, in the journey that your computer is over 5 years previous it could have USB a million.a million yet maximum exterior frustrating Drives will artwork, in spite of the incontrovertible fact that it extremely is going to likely be slow, once you plug on your upload-ons it extremely is going to show up a sprint communicate in case you have USB one

in some of the p2 mainboard they r having usb inbuilt. go to control panel - system - hardware - device manager. if u can see usb at the last u can just put connector on the mainboard and start using usb. if not there are pci usb cards are available in the computer shops. purchase it fix in the pci slot, if u r using winxp means it will automatically take or below means cd or floppy is available with the card, install it and enjoy

You could get a usb card and then you would be able to hook any device to your pc, however i would not recommend this for an external drive. I have an external drive at the moment and all I done was open up my case and screwed my old hard drive in place, there should be a space for it and as long as you remember to designate it as 'slave' your computer will still boot up from your main 'master' drive. You shouldnt need to 'add new hardware' if your pc is XP or later it should recognise it itself.

you should be able to get a card to add to your computer that will give you USB ports in the back. Try newegg.com, lost of prodects and good prices, and you should not need a fancy one.

Pentium 2 is a processor not a computer and a very old and bad processor. just buy a new pc, they are cheap and way better than pentium 2.
