It rather depends on if this is a simple Network Set-up problem or if the operating system has been 'tweaked' by the company IT Dept.

I suggest you ask the company IT Dept. for some advise.

(Computers used on company networks often have user restrictions 'built in' .. for example, your 'Log In' options may be restricted to the company Domain only. Even computers set-up for occasional off-site use (i.e. laptops) are often locked down to the extent that unless they plugged into the Company network at regular intervals, they will 'lock you out' ...

... and it would not be unusual to have Network changes disabled to prevent home users connnecting company PC's to their home internet without any Firewall and thereby introducing viruses ..)

do you have the installation disk for the external modem?

Also, those gx270s, plenty have a defect in their motherboard, recall has expired, a company stole a patent design for capacitors from another company, they made a few million of them which were used on a few million motherboards. It turned out what they stole was a defective design. If yours has the defective capacitors, a sign that they are breaking down is the power will suddenly go off. The power button will blick amber. Holding the power button down until the amber turns off. Then power it up again. If it keeps shutting down then disconnect everything and look at the motherboard. The capacitors will probably look bulged out like a frozen soda can or signs of leakage. For northern hemispere, this is the hotest time of the year. Motherboards are running in hotter environments. The capacitors break down. I bet the company was glad to dump a possible defective computer to their own employees. Especially after the recall ended.

make sure that dhcp is enabled.

network and sharing > view status > details = DHCP YES.

if it is enabled then next check:-

network and sharing > view status > properties > internet protocol version 6.

single cklick to select (TCP/IPv6) then select properties.

select obtain IPv6 address automatically

select obtain dns server address automatically.

do the same for (TCP/IPv4)

reboot computer.

after reboot reset your modem.

if you have a router you will also have to reset that too.
