Question:
Why won't my Ubuntu desktop run a file from the setup disc for a TV Tuner?

I'm trying to put a WinTV v7 usb tv tuner on my desktop. I have everything plugged in and the disc is in the drive, but the autorun won't start and when I try opening setup.exe file on the disc this error comes up:
Archive: /media/CD-WINTV7-V2.4D/Setup.exe
[/media/CD-WINTV7-V2.4D/Setup.exe]
End-of-central-directory signature not found. Either this file is not
a zipfile, or it constitutes one disk of a multi-part archive. In the
latter case the central directory and zipfile comment will be found on
the last disk(s) of this archive.
zipinfo: cannot find zipfile directory in one of /media/CD-WINTV7-V2.4D/Setup.exe or
/media/CD-WINTV7-V2.4D/Setup.exe.zip, and cannot find /media/CD-WINTV7-V2.4D/Setup.exe.ZIP, period.

I'm also getting some notice when I start the computer that goes along the lines of "The disk drive for /dev/mapper/cryptswap1 is not yet ready or not present". Is there someway to fix this or is the program simply not compatible with Ubuntu?

Linux may have X windows, but it is NOT Windows and will not run Windows exe programs natively. You can run many Windows programs by installing and using "wine". But not sure about device drivers. You may need to hunt for a Linux driver for that tuner and a Linux multimedia app to display from the tuner.

Try the "Multimedia & Video" forum at http://ubuntuforums.org/

The /dev/mapper thing has something to do with lingering remnants of disk raid or volumes that you may need to clean up. Maybe someone in the "Installation & Upgrades" forum there could help you with that.

you are trying to use a windows executable file on a linux desktop. windows and linux are based on two different coding systems. try the link that i have pasted in below. It talks about some kind of windows emulator for linux that should allow you to run .exe files, but I don't know if it will work for you or not

It's not running because it's not windows, but you really don't need it.

A sufficiently recent version of ubuntu should have drivers included. As for programs...

Use tvtime to test functionality at first

http://tvtime.sourceforge.net/

https://lists.ubuntu.com/archives/ubuntu-users/2009-July/190450.html

And mythtv to make a really slick DVR of your computer is you wish.
