I am going to buy a new laptop in the near future. I want it for school (so internet and office) and for gaming - one game in particular, WOW. I have already picked out the computer I want from Dell and the only problem is the video card that comes with it. It is "Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 4500MHD". I don't know jack about inner workings of computers or anything so I'm really confused on whether this will suffice or not. I could not find this card listed on the WOW webpage for supported video cards. The page lists supported and not supported cards and this was not on any list. However, from the user reviews on the computer I gathered that this card was not good for gaming. Now I plan to just buy a video card separate but I don't know anything about them! I don't know which one to pick or how to find out if it will work with the computer or anything. Help me! And I almost forgot, I would like to spend $100-$300 on the card.

PS WOW recommends ATI Radeon 7200 or VNIDIA GeForce 7600 GT class card or better. And I would prefer to order the video card from the dell website at the same time I order my computer. Here is a link to the dell website for video cards http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/category.aspx?c=us&category_id=7322&cs=19&l=en&s=dhs&~ck=anav

Oh and in case this helps this is the computer I chose http://www.dell.com/content/products/productdetails.aspx/studio-1747?c=us&l=en&s=dhs&cs=19

Hi, you cannot buy graphics cards for laptops as they are not available for them, only computers.

To upgrade it, ring dell support and tell them, when you buy your laptop, to upgrade your laptops graphics card to a better one and they should give you it with a different graphics card.

Tell them its for gaming and you want it to be HD.

It will cost (obviously) for the graphics card but im not sure if they charge you for the upgrade.

Good luck...

BTW, that's a really good laptop.

I'm pretty sure you can't replace a laptop's video card unless you send it back to manufacturer or are a professional computer technician. The video cards dell sells separately are for desktop computers. You can't put a desktop vid card in a laptop. If you want to play WoW on a laptop (my husband does) you will need to buy a machine designed for gaming. Dell sells some alienware laptops that are engineered for gaming. You may be able to find one cheaper somewhere... but in my experience, You're not going to find a decent Laptop to play WoW on for less than $1000.

Unless your getting your laptop custom built your not going to be able to buy any graphics card you choose the way you do for a desktop system. If its dell your ordering from for a laptop they will give you a list of graphics cards they can upgrade your chosen laptop with.

Unfortunately laptops are still not as customizable as desktops yet :(

Intel video chipsets are terrible for gaming.

Also, it's a good thing that you asked about buying a video card before you went and did so...

Because you can't replace the video card in a laptop.

Those are all desktop video cards anyways.

You can only do this with a desktop.

Anyways...

Any of these laptops will run WOW just fine:

Tri-SLI 285 GTX 2 GB(3 playing cards) will grant the main suitable pictures overall performance at present on the marketplace. they're stronger to the 295 GTX a million.7 GB variations that furnish quad-SLI (2 pictures playing cards). The 2x 295 suffers from microstuttering (aka miniature lags in some video games) and so as that they simply have a finished max of three.4 GB of bandwidth memory. The 3x 285 grant 6 GB of memory and run very with ease. even nevertheless, they do require magnificent cooling on your gadget and consume power aspects alive if yours isn't as much as the job. Get twin PSU (2 power furnish instruments 1k watts or greater suitable) or a single PSU of a million.2k watts a minimum of. additionally the 3x 285 are high priced... in case you desire to bypass on funds smart.. get a single 295 GTX and it will nevertheless run in twin-SLI (2 gpu interior the cardboard) and as long as your no longer playing extremely some the latest video games out on max settings you will no longer be stricken by microstuttering regularly... and its greater inexpensive this way, will actually suffice for WoW. WoW WILL artwork with SLI, even nevertheless, you will no longer see a overall performance enhance for having SLI... this merely skill that with a SLI configuration you will play... even nevertheless it won't see the better overall performance out of your workstation that maximum video games could for having SLI setup... of course with this pictures card... which will hardly count (can nevertheless run max settings for WoW actually). be conscious!!!!: in case you have SLI setup... then your gadget won't help 2 or greater video show instruments in maximum situations (except you know okay what your doing)
