It means there is something called "Shader Model 2" that the game requires that your video card doesn't support.

As it says, upgrade your card.

I have this same problem on my XP laptop. It works fine on my Vista laptop, but that one is far superior. Regedit is your registry editor. It could possibly fix something, by editing it. But you'd need to know what and it's not very likely that would be able to solve it. It's most likely not going to be possible because your graphics card is too old. You'll need to upgrade to play it. It won't make any difference if you buy it legally either. I've been looking around for an answer, but haven't found one yet. Another game, Lost Via Domus, gets a similar shader model 2 error on that XP laptop. So, most likely, it's a graphics card issue. I don't know yet if there's a way to play the game so older graphics cards can work with it. Once it's officially released, many more people should have this problem and then there could be answers.

It means your video card is really old and doesn't support Pixel Shader Model 2.0(we're currently on version 4, with 5 coming out soon)

You can't fix it, you will have to get a new video card to run your game.

Pixel shader

Hardware

Chart shows which cards, graphic chips, and DirectX-Version supports which Pixel-Shader-Version. Graphic chips usually are fully downward compatible (3.0 chip supports 2.0, 1.1, etc.).
