Question:
Why am I getting I/O device error 0x8007045D on my external drive?

I have already done extensive searches and attempted the fixes recommended on Microsoft's support forums, but these either don't work or don't apply to my particular problem. I tried contacting Western Digital support, but they claim that it is a sharing conflict, and only Microsoft would be able to resolve it.

NOTE: I have already tried going into the system protection settings and following the steps related to restore points, so please don't recommend this. I cannot create a new restore point due to the same I/O device error.

At random my external hard drive ceases being able to save files or be safely removed. Then, after unplugging it from the USB port, Windows no longer recognizes it until I power cycle the drive. After power cycling, the problem returns within minutes.

When attempting to save or delete files on the drive, I repeatedly receive a message saying that the action has failed due to an I/O device error 0x8007045D.

This is maddening, and I can't afford for this drive to become useless now, so please help me if you can.

I had a similar problem before & tried all sorts of remedies. Although I don't know the specific action that fixed it in the end, here's what I did along with following the instructions in the Microsoft support forum.

I emptied my Recycle Bin, turned off Indexing Service on the external drive, selected all content on the drive & unchecked 'Read-only' in the properties panel, prevented Windows Media Player/Winamp/Nero etc from monitoring the external drive for library files, removed the external drive from any shared folders & turned off system restore on the external drive. Also, after each step I did a restart.

I hope this helps you solve the issue as I know how frustrating it is.

The easiest and fastest way to solve this problem is to run a registry cleaner software. A registry cleaner can eliminate errors in your record. This record stores all information about the software, drivers, applications and games that are installed on your computer. And in time, it can get bad, because some obsolete entries are not deleted and can lead to what they call the "errors". By using a registry cleaner http://make-a-computer-run-better.com the errors can be eradicated and increases the speed of your computer in the process. Registry cleaners work by scanning each file and then checking to see if it's corrupt or causing problems. If they find that it is broken, the registry cleaner will replace or fix the file for you to make your computer become free of errors. In addition, the errors will not happen if you regularly check and care for your computer system.

You will have more stable USB power if you plug the external HDD to the USB ports at the back of the PC which are directly connected to the mobo unlike those in the front panel.
