Firstly, it sounds to me more like a dodgy usb cable.

Secondly, 'deleting' them in disk management is more likely to make the problem worse than fix it. Don't fiddle with important system things unless you know what you're doing.

But yeah, it's probably the cable, I had this with a crappy poundland cable. It would connect for a while but then drop out because it was so poorly made. Apple are probably outsourcing their usb cable dept so they can be el cheapo. Best solution, buy a new cable, preferable from a shop where there are tech geeks who can tell you if the cable is going to be decent or at least give you a guarantee (after all, usb cables are handy things to have considering how many devices use them as a link to a computer).

besides the obvious connection issues, if present. and trying different USB ports

anything "I-pod" or beginning with "I" or requiring ITUNES or just made by MAC or APPLE, etc and I would not rule out spyware, DRM and licensing security bots causing some issues. and External media comes bundled with BLOATWARE like "Secure Vault" or something stupid.

I will never install that Itunes crud on my PC and I have had no issues even without any antivirus.

There is a gazillion indexers that are always running like a constant computer defrag slowing you down and make the hard drive burn out quicker. not to mention the Ads, and spybots in use so they can send you email of your interests and the such. Being that intrusive I would not be surprised if it unmounting your other drives or screwing with drive letter assignments.

Try uninstalling ITUNES or any encryption software that came with your external HDD to see if the problem is resolved

nicely dang in case you have tried each and every thing then it would desire to be filled! Did you attempt putting a Flashpersistent? it would desire to easily be that your workstation does not have the mandatory utility to get admission to/run/understand your cellular telephone. If that's a Nokia then you definately would be wanting that Nokia workstation Suite utility. P.S Screw finding for drivers now-a-days, they are all unofficial direct mail businesses. visit the professional website of the hardware producer and need for the suited.
