If not mistaken that is a regular plug in usb wireless adapter long as it is plug in directly into the laptop usb port and the software is installed , you can pick up hotspots{ open wifi}Right click the wireless icon and view available networks on the road just connect into them word of caution make sure your firewall is on most restrurants , retail stores wifi is secure compared to wandering open wifi

This adapter will only work while connected to a wireless network. It will not work on the road. :(

You should be able to get a contract from a phone company. They have contracts where they give you a usb stick that can connect to the internet in most places including roads

Depends which one you buy.

Me? I have three VONETS USB-wifi adaptors/bridges. One stopped working properly (sometimes didn't recover from power off correctly) after a few months. Other two still going fine.

Most laptops nowadays have built-in wifi adaptors. Are you sure you're talking about wifi and not about something like a 3G dongle?
