Do all external hard drives share the same power source? Same watt/voltage?

So if I have one from Seagate and another from Western Digital (assuming they both need an external power source), would I be able to swap the cable between them? This pertains only to external hard drives with a dedicated power outlet (so not the usb powered externals).

All appliances have their ratings somewhere on the casing. If you want to substitute, you must only use a power supply with the same voltage and amperage rating. If you connect one with a higher voltage rating, you will overload the device and probably burn it out. If the substitiute has a slightly higher amperage rate, that should be OK, as the device will draw only the current (amperage) it requires, but if you use a supply with a lower amperage rating, it cannot supply enough current and will overheat and burn out.

Why do you think that we are on different boats. No, we all are sailing on the same ocean in the same boat but unfortunately our thoughts, actions, desires, acts, needs feelings, and deeds are different. You know why?coz we are selfish and live for self only, we won't care of others, we love ourselves only and not all. Its why the boat is the same but we are different. Thank you.

the cords are interchangable but the lil black box the power cord plugs into may not be check on that box and see what the voltage and what not says and see if they both say the same
