I installed a 512 MB memory card in my computer but don't know how to configure it to get my computer to recognize it.
Can anyone explain how to do it or give me a good site to go to? Thanks.

What type of memory card are you using? SD, SDHC, Compact Flash, Memory Stick, etc...Usually the memory card are picked up by the computer automatically. If not you might need to format the memory card. Go to start > Computer. Locate the drive that your memory card is situated. Right click and format. If your computer does not show the memory card check your PC inside to see if the cable to the memory reader has been disconnected. If the memory card still is not able to be seen by your computer, you might want to take the card to a different computer to see if it is functional. If not then good chance that the memory card is defective. If memory card functions properly in another computer, then likely the memory reader is defective. Most of the time it is the memory card that becomes defective.

If you are installing RAM, then your PC automatically picks up the new RAM. If not, try booting with only the new RAM. If system fails to boot, then likely the RAM has gone bad. I recently received a laptop Crucial RAM that was DOA. RAM usually have lifetime warranty. Try to exchange it out from place of purchase or from manufacturer. Make sure also that you seat the RAM properly and you have the proper memory. There is a difference between DDR and DDR2.

Your question is not clear. Is this a RAM memory board which you put into a socket on the motherboard? Or is this a USB device which accepts memory cards? USB devices are sometimes called cards. The thing you put into a socket on a motherboard is not called a card. If on the motherboard, then you probably do not have the motherboard configured to "see" the type of RAM you installed. There are several types of RAM boards, SRAM, SDRAM, EDO, and others. Most newer motherboard determine what type is installed during the POST (Power On Self Test). Some have to have jumpers on the motherboard configured to tell it what type is installed in each socket. You may need to enter the BIOS setup, to configure the memory settings. You may need to change motherboard jumpers. For a USB device, there are adapter devices which accept memory cards, SD, MMC, SD/MMC and others. IF the USB device is recognized, you will see a drive letter appear in the MY COMPUTER icon when you double click on it. If you see a drive letter, but cannot access it, then likely all you need do is "format" the drive. You may need to partition it using the DOS utility program FDISK. Right click on the drive and select properties and on the pull-down menu, select format and follow the prompts. I might have provided more detail if you had added a few more particulars on what it is you have since your terminology is not consistent with the common terms used for hardware. I have a digital camera (which I bought used and have no docs for) which uses memory cards, the SD/MMC kind. And I have a USB adapter which uses the same type of card, SD/MMC. The camera is OLD and did not recognize a card had been inserted. I found I had to initialize the card in my USB adapter before my camera would recognize a card was inserted to expand the memory. If I had the software for the digital camera, it probably would have told me I needed to initialize the card before I could use it in the camera. What can I say? I bought it at a yard sale for $5. I tell you this because there is a compitabilty issue with various types and kinds of hardware which is not always apparent even though the parts fit into sockets and such.
