I tried installing the graphics card but the screen is blank. I believe motherboard on the desktop is nForce 590 SLI.

Your PSU is 750w and that is sufficient. Are you able to see the BIOS screen at boot? Most BIOS have a display option (onboard video or PEG/PCIE). Make sure it's set to PEG/PCIE and not onboard video. Also make sure the card is pressed firmly into the socket and that you plugged the PCIE power cable into it as well from the PSU.

There are a lot of things that could go wrong..

1. Do you have a big enough power supply to work this graphic card beast? You might want around 500W or higher.

2. Did you install it securely, making sure all nuts and bolts are tightly locked in, and that the card it self is securely locked in place?

3. Are all connections and wires to the graphic card and CPU correct and secure?

Tinker with it a little bit more :)

Make shore your PSU meets the requirements for the video card. When i bought a GF9800 GT I had to swap out the PSU on my XPS 410 just to power the video card which had a 450W min and the PSU was 400W. I'm now using a 500W PSU and the video card runs like a dream.

HD 5970 requires one 75W 6-pin and one 150W 8-pin PCI Express power connections.
