Can I use an EIDE hard drive with an IDE/USB enclosure?

I bought an Internal (WD250JBRTL) EIDE hard drive with the intent of using it as a "removable USB storage". I set the jumper to the slave setting and installed it in an IDE enclosure. My computers recognizes that a USB device has been plugged in but will not show the drive in "my computer", Is there a compatibility issue between EIDE and IDE ???

It has to be set to Master. Its the master on that channel. You would only set slave if you are using it on an internal channel that already has a drive on it.

Any PC built with a USB port is EIDE capable. Not that the two are related ... just that EIDE technology came out way before USB.

So that is not the issue.

Even using your new hard drive as an external, you may still have to run the setup disc that came with it so that it is configured for the purpose you want it for. Also, you may not need the jumper on that drive for a USB application

You need to make sure the drive is initialized, and is formatted with a partition readable by your computer.
