Your computer uses DDR Sdram memory. This memory stick has 184 pins, or 'fingers' on the bottom. It operates at 266MHz,(266 Megahertz. Approximately 266 million cycles per second) Each ram 'stick' is 256 Megabytes in size. It takes 4 of these 'sticks' to equal 1 GB,(Gigabyte. 1024 MB=1GB.) The ram you purchased, DDR2 has 240 pins, or 'fingers' on the bottom. It operates at 667MHz. It's 2 Gigabyte in size,(amount) I suggest you return the ram you bought. Put the old ram back in. Go online to Crucial.com, and use their Crucial System Scanner Tool,(Click on the Scan My System 'button') Use the knowledge from them of:

1.How much is the maximum AMOUNT of ram your computer will handle. For example: 1GB? 2GB's?

2.How much is the maximum EACH ram slot will handle? For example: 512MB. 1GB, (Two 512MB=1024MB, or 1GB.)

3.What kind of ram is it? DDR right?

4.What is the maximum speed? PC2100? (266MHz DDR), PC2700,(333MHz DDR)

They will tell you all this information, for YOUR computer. The scan 'sees' YOUR computer. No other information is transferred, only the computer system specifications.

There are basically two types of RAM.

DDR (the old kind you had) and DDR2 (the new kind you bought). The new kind is not compatible and there's nothing you can do to change that.

However, DDR RAM is very cheap. You could easily get a couple of GB for about $60. I would recommend getting it from Newegg.com for the best price.

As for your new RAM. You could try to return it to the store or sell it to someone else. Or you could save it for when you get a new computer.

you purchased ddr2 instead of ddr. I would return it unless you have a geek gamer friend with a newer motherboard than you. Maybe you can sell it to them. You should look 1 gb sticks of ddr pc3200. They're still around and most likely won't be much more than you paid for the ddr2.

Hi your computer does not support the kind of ram that you have bought. Return it to the shop if you can.

You need ddr pc2100 ram like this

Well, if you can, return the ram you bought. You need DDR 266 (PC 2100) ram. And if you buy two 1GB sticks it will probably be cheaper and faster than one 2GB stick. Take a look at these deals:
