i have a computer that just past its warranty expiry date. (i wouldnt exchange it anyways though) the wireless mouse isnt responding well and will sometimes just freeze. there was a red button underneath the mouse that said connect but it fell out. it also doesnt work wen its directly in front of its wireless conector thing (like what you would aim a remote at.

First, reboot the computer. If the mouse is still wonky, check battery level on the mouse. There should be a little icon in the system tray section (lower right) of the Windows taskbar that allows you to check status of the mouse (or you can check by going to the mouse program in your Start menu). If the batteries are good, make sure the mouse and the wireless receiver are at least a couple of feet apart--sometimes they don't work well if they are very close together.

If the mouse is still wonky, the receiver and mouse may no longer be on the same channel. The wireless receiver should also have a "connect" button. Try resetting the system using that button. Or try pushing in on the place where the mouse "connect" button SHOULD be with a small screwdriver. Hopefully the button will still work, and the two devices will synchronize.

If that doesn't work, you might just have an outdated driver. Go into control panel, click the System Icon, and click the Hardware tab on the screen that comes up. Click on the button for Device Manager. You'll see a little expandable list of all the devices on your system. Expand the selection for "mice and other pointing devices" and double click on your mouse. Click on the driver tab and ask Windows to update the driver, and follow the wizard.

And if THAT doesn't work, replace the mouse. :P

I recommend that you get a new mouse if it has that many problems. Sometimes a mouse just gives up! Mouse with cables seem to last longer and are very cheap. So if you do a lot with your computer you should look for that.

If you do go with wireless you can try several brands. The most famous ones are Logitech and the Microsoft.
