Help! USB keyboards wont work in my WinXP desktop anymore. USB mouse works, Kybd works only in BIOS/setup before windows. I tried deleting USBs from the device manager, safe mode + every other trick. Ideas on fixing (not replacing OS or PC)? Thanks!

got an old serial keyboard handy?

from a cold start have only it pluged in. let it load windows and go to control panel /keyboards as it should work fine.then plug in the USB keyboard with the computer still running it should plug and play on restart dump the serial keyboard hope it works.

initial thought was a bad driver that needs to be updated..

but sounds like it has been working for you so it sounds more like hardware problem, things getting old and ruined by dust (it's pretty common). have you tried switching the usb plug with the mouse and see if that helps?

it maybe a faulty usb plug. never heard of that before but doesn't surprise me that it happen.

my thought was a bad usb output so you can possibly eliminate that theory if your pc has an extra usb output where you can plug the keyboard.

sorry for not too obvious answer..

go to microsoft hardware ,look under keyboards, download software

for usb keyboards microsoft will help you indentify the one you need

save software to desktop, the whole time of doing this use a regular

keyboard, install the software, shutdown, uplug your regular keyboard

plug in your usb keyboard,reboot
