Question:
Thinking about buying the WD MyBook Studio 1TB?
2008-05-08 13:06:54 UTC
I've been looking at getting the MyBook Studio 1TB drive, but have heard very mixed reviews. I don't care if its not the fastest, I like it for the nice slim design, size, fanless-ness, and firewire 800. But some I've read some reviews that say it hangs or crashes after 2 years, etc. Anyone here have this drive? Thoughts? Alternatives?

I bought one of these for my Power Mac G5, running Leopard. It caused me no end of trouble -- would hang the computer at odd times, the firmware update wouldn't work. I wound up returning it; I've had a number of WD drives over the years, some of them good, some terrible. I think this is the last WD drive for me. I prefer the OWC hard drives (available from their website), which have so far proven extremely reliable.

WD MyBooks are the worst exterior troublesome Drives made. the flexibility buttons normally stops working after 3 to 4 months... a 300 and sixty 5 days once you're fortunate. LaCie is probable the suited exterior troublesomecontinual.

i do have a mybook, i have not heard that it crashes, i dont like external too much for the fact that its in the way, have you looked into an internal drive? but other then that, you can always get it replaced.
