You made 6 partitions on the disk? What for? And can you make that many partitions on a logical disk?
Well...anyways. If you want to install it on the external drive, just put the WinXP disk in the computer, boot from it, and when it asks you where you want to install the OS, tell it to use the external disk. Should be rather easy.
The only snag you could hit is if Windows won't allow itself you be installed on an external drive. I know Linux supports this, but good luck with Microsoft...

If you've formatted these partitions simply reboot, enter your bios, and set the external drive as the first boot device . How I would do this is to disconnect your internal drive temporarily, reboot into the bios, set your cd/dvd drive as the first boot device, boot from the windows xp cd and install xp to the external hard drive. Once this is complete you'll have to format the original drive or you'll be presented with a menu at boot indicating multiple operating systems.

Unless the drive is recognized at boot time, you won't be able to install the OS to it. I'm guessing this is a USB connected drive so if your motherboard supports booting from a USB device, you may just need to configure it to include it as a bootable device.
On a personal note, I would opt to purchase an internal drive rather than using an external for the OS. Generally external drives tend to be used for transporting data between systems or as an alternative to opening the system and installing a drive.
