think of midi as being lots of tv stations.

where you can have 16 or 24 channels to choose from.

so if you want to hear a piano, assign that sound to midi tack one to receive data, on your pc sound card, midi editor/ recorder.

then on the key board, transmit on channel 1 and you should will hear a sound. UNLESS your sound card under AUDIO SETTING is not turned on or the music program THAT HAS ALL THE SOUND is not set p properly......MultiMedia drivers under audio or midi setting in the programs preferences or options pop downs.

What software are you using? I'm assuing your software records MIDI & audio. In most recording programs, there is a way to designate if a track will be MIDI or audio. For example, I use Digital orchestrator pro and when you click the "type" icon on the track, it selects either MIDI or Audio. It should be basically the same on your software.

SO...make sure it is set for MIDI. Once that is done, there should be a option in your drop down menu, something like "MIDI ports" or "MIDI options" There is usually "MIDI INPUT" & "MIDI OUTPUT" options to choose. If your interface is installed correctly, you should see an option like "USB-Midi interface" or soemthing like that, in the MIDI INPUT.

Once that is done, the only thing left to do is tell your computer where to send the sound information. Do you want to sound to come from your computer? Or come from a musical keyboard? That is determined by your output port :)

hope this helps.

MIDI does not carry sound, you cannot record audio from it.

MIDI is a control language that records keystrokes and controller data.

You can use a MIDI sequencer program (commonly included with digital audio software) to record the keystrokes of a performance on the keyboard, and the use that to 'play' the keyboard later. The keyboard would create the sound.

You need to restate your question and say what program you are using, cause that is where you can change what device your recording with.
