Hi, poom

It seems this kind program happens all the time from external drive or USB flash drive, Windows says you have to format the drive before you can use it and strangely it wont' let you access the files in the USB drive.

The possible reason may be your USB drive is corrupted or crashed, thus Windows can't recognize the drive properly and indicates you have to format the drive.

My suggestion is not format the drive immediately, as formatting will make the data much more harder to be reovered. Try some format recovery programs to see if your data can be recovered then think about what should be done next, how about this foramt recovery tool,

Best regards, good luck

There might be something wrong with your drive. In this situation, people will feel panic and confused. If I format the drive, will I lose all my data? If not, how could I get access to my files?

My suggested way is: try to make your usb detected, but if it still needs formatting, you have to format it first and use some data recovery software to recover the files.

Here's the software I used to use to recover my files after I accidentally format the drive

go to "my computer" find the name of the flash drive (probably something like "lexar" or "removable media" depending on the brand). Right click, Format. Full or quick. eiither works.
