obsolete CPU socket?

Has anyone out there ever tried to change a CPU socket, on a mobo ?
I have a 939 socket mobo and the choices keep getting fewer and fewer as to the availability of processors....
I would like to change it to an AM2 socket, if that's possible....
Also, the reason I don't just change the mobo is that it's an E- machine (they
make their mobo's smaller than normal, so you can't just buy one that fits, from a web site suplier.)
The next step would be to get a new case and mobo and transfer most of the rest of the parts from my machine to it.
That would be about $240.00, if I got decent ones

Just get yourself a Micro ATX form factor motherboard with the socket and features you want. It will fit in that e-machine case.

Only problem may be the back faceplate that covers the USB ports, etc. However, most new motherboards come with an insert that works with their layout that you simply pop out the old and install the new.

You cannot change the socket type on a motherboard. I believe you can change that motherboard on that emachine - using a micro ATX motherboard. The real question is: why would you want to? The emachine is not really known as a performance king.

Dump the emachine and build your own system - check out the barebones systems available at tigerdirect.com or newegg.com.

Yes you can change the socket on the motherboard by buying a new one!
