It is used like a diskette or CD. Just save your file to it.

1) Portability. No need to cart a diskette when you need to share information.

2) Security. Store private files on the flash drive and lock the drive up in a safe place.

3)Expandability. You can defer upgrading your hard drive.

A mass storage device is a computer component usually hardware that you can store information (Documents files folders music etc.)on. A storage device makes it easier for people to take info from one hard drive to one which is located in a different place easier. You load the info u want from your PC at home and take it to work to load on your PC there. My husband uses his ipod as a storage device.I travel a lot so I have an 80gig hard drive inside a Luxon USB SATA 3.5"external HDD enclosure storing all my info And when I need to retrieve it i just connect it to my laptop. It works really well for me Because I don't clog up space on my laptop so it keeps working at optimum level provided of course i do the standard maintenance.

It's a mass storage device about the size of a pack of gum. If you move files around from work, school, home and friends places, it's very usefull. You just plug it in, and all the files are there. It's very portable, and the capacity is growing very quickly. You can get a 4gb USB thumbdrive for about 150$. And even cheaper for 2gb models. They are very handy.

You can use it to transfer files from one computer to another, or use it to back up important files.

You just stick it into the USB slot of the computer and most operating systems will immediately recognize it. It is treated as another disk drive in the system. You drag and drop just as you would with any other disk drive.
